MEET THE ARTIST
Martin Hunt is a landscape artist working primarily in oil, whose practice is rooted in direct observation of the environments he paints. His work begins outdoors, where he spends time immersed in a location, producing sketches that respond to the changing conditions of light, weather, and atmosphere.
Having studied Fine Art Painting at university, his early practice was shaped by a strong foundation in observational drawing and painting. After a period of stepping away from his work to focus on family, he has recently returned to painting with a renewed sense of direction and connection to the landscape.
These initial studies form the foundation for paintings developed in the studio, where the focus shifts towards capturing the overall presence and character of a place. Rather than documenting a landscape exactly as it appears, his work reflects a more considered interpretation shaped by both observation and experience.
Through this process, his paintings explore the subtle relationships between land, light, and atmosphere, creating work that invites a quiet sense of connection to the landscape.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I spend time within the landscapes I paint, observing the way light, weather, and atmosphere shape each place. Through sketches made on location, I begin to understand not only how a landscape appears, but how it feels.
